The trailer has arrived for Malick's WWII drama.
With The Tree of Life, Terrence Malick ushered in a stretch of films - To the Wonder, Knight of Cups, Song to Song - that saw the director distance himself from conventional storytelling, losing fans and gaining new admirers in the process.
With A Hidden Life, Malick returns to something close to a conventional narrative to tell the true story of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian farmer accused of treason when he refused to fight for the Nazis in WWII. August Diehl, Valerie Pachner, Michael Nyqvist, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jürgen Prochnow, Bruno Ganz and Franz Rogowski star.
A Hidden Life is in UK/ROI cinemas January 17th, 2020.
Check out the trailer below.
The official synopsis reads:
Based on real events, A HIDDEN LIFE is the story of an unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife Fani and children that keeps his spirit alive.
