Review by Andy Comer
House of Monsters is currently a two episode stop-motion series based off of the award winning short of the same name. The show follows the lives of a handful of the classic movie monsters including mummies, vampires, and werewolves as they live together in a castle that overlooks a small town.
The premise is simple enough; these monsters are living together because the world rejects them, and because they want to live beyond their walls they get into unique situations and adventures that expand this version of their characters. One being a story about a vampire becoming able to walk in the daylight, and the other about Frankenstein’s monster falling in love. Both were deeper stories than I anticipated from such short episodes, but the storytelling here is remarkable.
Presented from the sole point of view of the narrator, Dr. Gaulstone, these stories are told from a place of love. Throw in the great surprise that the doctor is voiced by the great dynamic voice of Christopher Lloyd and it is abundantly obvious how much effort has been put into these shorts. I cannot wait to see this series continue and grow into something really special, because all the components are here, they just need to keep doing what they started and I’m sure this will take off.
