A trailer has emerged for the upcoming remake of Coppola's cult thriller.
Before becoming the most celebrated filmmaker of the '70s with The Godfather, The Conversation and Apocalypse Now, Francis Ford Coppola worked under producer Roger Corman in 1963 to write and direct Dementia 13, a proto-slasher in which the members of an aristocratic Irish family are picked off by an axe wielding killer.
Coppola's film has now been remade by director Richard LeMay (Naked As We Come) and relocated to the US. The cast includes Julia Campanelli, Ana Isabelle, Marianne Noscheze, Channing Pickett and Christian Ryan.
Dementia 13 opens in US cinemas October 6th with a digital HD and VOD release following on October 10th. A UK release has yet to be announced.
The official synopsis reads:
Some ghosts you can’t rid of, other ghosts want to get rid of you. This modernized remake of Coppola’s debut film, Dementia 13 follows an old-money family still dealing with the death of its youngest daughter several years later. While honoring the daughter’s death, a long con, an axe-wielding serial killer, and a vengeful ghost all coalesce in the same night to target the family. Everyone in the family has a secret, nobody wants to face what they did, and for someone to survive, the truth needs to come out - sooner than later.
