First look at the Zellner brothers' offbeat western.
Writing/directing duo David and Nathan Zellner scored an indie hit with their quirky 2014 drama Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter. Next up for the duo is an offbeat take on the western genre with Damsel.
Continuing his mission to work with non-mainstream filmmakers, Robert Pattinson stars as an Old West pioneer who embarks on a journey to reunite with the woman he loves (Mia Wasikowska), who it seems may not share his feelings.
Damsel is in US cinemas June 22nd, with a UK/ROI release yet to be announced. Check out the US trailer below and let us know what you think of it.
The official synopsis reads:
It’s the age of The Wild West, circa 1870. An affluent pioneer, Samuel Alabaster (Robert Pattinson) ventures deep into the American wilderness to reunite with and marry the love of his life, Penelope (Mia Wasikowska). For his journey he brings Butterscotch, a miniature horse intended as a wedding present for his bride, and enlists drunkard Parson Henry (David Zellner) to conduct the ceremony. As they traverse the lawless frontier their once simple journey grows treacherous, and the lines between hero, villain, and damsel are blurred.
