UK label CultFilms are releasing Argento's '80s giallo in January.
*The original November release date has now been changed.
Arguably Dario Argento's last great movie, 1987's Opera saw the Italian auteur combine his two loves with a giallo thriller set in the opera world.
Playing on the stage superstition of a curse around Macbeth, the film sees a young opera singer (Cristina Marsillach) menaced by a mysterious killer who forces her to watch as he bumps off everyone associated with a production of Verdi's Macbeth.
Combining bravura camerawork, outrageously staged set-pieces, extreme violence and a soundtrack featuring Brian Eno, Bill Wyman, Claudio Simonetti and Maria Callas, Opera sees Argento at the top of his game.
Working from Argento's instructions on how his film should look, CultFilms have restored the film in 2K for a home entertainment release on DVD, blu-ray and VOD on January 21st, 2019. You can pre-order it here.
Special features include a new interview with Argento; a behind the scenes documentary; and a featurette detailing the restoration work.
