Englund's directorial debut comes to UK blu-ray in October.
One of the lesser known '80s horror movies highlighted in Shudder's new documentary In Search of Darkness is 976-Evil. After becoming a horror icon in the role of Freddy Kreuger, Robert Englund made his directorial debut with this 1988 chiller.
The film stars Fright Night's Stephen Geoffreys as a lonely teen who finds himself menaced by a supernatural presence after dialling the titular phone number.
976-Evil makes its UK blu-ray debut courtesy of Eureka Entertainment, who release it on October 19th.
Special features include a commentary with director Robert Englund and set decorator Nancy Booth Englund; an extended version of the film from its original home video release on VHS; and new interviews with producer Lisa M. Hansen, special make-up effects artist Howard Berger and special effects technician Kevin Yagher. The first 2000 copies come with a limited edition slipcase and collector's booklet featuring new writing by Craig Ian Mann.

The official synopsis reads:
High school underdog Hoax (Stephen Geoffreys - Fright Night) fills up the idle hours in his seedy little hometown fending off the local leather-jacketed thugs, avoiding his overbearing mother (Sandy Dennis) and dreaming of a date with trailer park temptress Suzie (Lezlie Deane), But his quietly desperate life takes a terrifying turn when his cousin introduces him to an unusual new hobby – phoning in for his “horrorscope”. Hoax is hooked up with a compellingly hideous demonic force that slowly begins to overtake his entire life and now there’s more than just a phone bill to pay for anyone who ever dared cross “the neighbourhood nerd”.
