You'll have to wait another few weeks for our end of year list as we still have a few movies to take in, but other outlets have begun to drop theirs. One of the most talked about each year is that of French film journal Cahiers du Cinéma, whose 2020 Top 10 has now been revealed.
Topping the list is City Hall, the latest sprawling documentary by Frederick Wiseman, while Korean auteur Hong Sang-soo scoops two places on the list. It's perhaps a sign of the disruption of 2020 that only one movie on the list, the Safdies' Uncut Gems, has had a UK/ROI release at time of posting.
Here's the list in full:
1. City Hall - Frederick Wiseman
2. The Woman Who Ran - Hong Sang-soo
3. Uncut Gems - Ben Safdie and Joshua Safdie
4. Malmkrog - Cristi Puiu
5. The Things We Say, the Things We Do - Emmanuel Mouret
6. Hotel by the River - Hong Sang-soo
7. Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains - Gu Xiaogang
8. The Salt of Tears - Philippe Garrel
9. Enormous - Sophie Letourneur
10. The August Virgin - Jonás Trueba
