Directed by Simon Stone and based on the novel by John Preston, The Dig plays out its factually inspired drama in the lead up to World War One. Carey Mulligan plays a rich widow who hires an archaeologist (Ralph Fiennes) to carry out a dig on the grounds of her estate, resulting in the unearthing of an Anglo-Saxon battle ship, one of the most significant archaeological finds in British history. The film also stars Lily James, Johnny Flynn, Ben Chaplin, Ken Stott and Monica Dolan.
The Dig is in UK cinemas from January 15th and on Netflix from January 29th.
