One of Netflix's biggest hits to date was the Sandra Bullock starring
apocalyptic thriller
Bird Box, so it's no surprise to see the streaming giants attempt to repeat that
film's success with another survival story in a post-apocalyptic
setting.
Directed by Mark Raso (Kodachrome), Awake takes place in the aftermath of a mysterious event
that has left the world's population with an inability to sleep.
Gina Rodriguez plays an ex-soldier whose young daughter (Arianna Greenblatt) seems to be the only one capable of catching 40 winks.
The film also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Barry Pepper, Shamier Anderson, Finn
Jones
and Frances Fisher.
Awake is on Netflix from June 9th.

The official synopsis reads:
After a sudden global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep, chaos quickly begins to consume the world. Only Jill, an ex-soldier with a troubled past, may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter.
