Casinos have been around for over a century and they have stamped their
mark on popular culture around the world. In the current day these
gambling houses are as popular as ever, and the emergence of online
casinos like the
Novibet casino
has catapulted the success of these games to a whole new level around the
globe. Anything this important in the culture has movies made about it,
and casinos are no different. In fact there have been some absolutely
incredible movies made about this pastime, and here are the ones which we
think are the best.
Casino
Vegas movies do not get any better than this blockbuster featuring Robert
DeNiro and Joe Pesci, with the brilliant Martin Scorsese at the helm. The
movie actually doesn’t feature too much by way of table action, but rather
focuses on the gangsters who own the casino and the impact which they have
on Vegas on the whole. This 1995 movie certainly set the standard for what
a casino movie should be about.
Rain Man
Whilst this may be considered a road movie by some, the reality is that
it is the gambling scenes in Rain Man which people love the most. Who
after all, could forget this incredible performance by Dustin Hoffman,
playing the autistic older brother of Tom Cruise? Thanks to Hoffman’s
incredible ability to count, the duo clean up at the blackjack table
leaving the other players stunned. This is a perfect movie about
relationships, struggles and triumphs.
Rounders
Matt Damon is exceptional in this movie about playing poker, and the
dangers which you can face if you get in too deep. This movie was made
long before the rise of online poker and it really brought the game to the
masses. Damon is a law student who loves nothing more than playing poker
for high stakes each evening. After getting into hot water, the young
student needs today deep and win a final game, and the stakes couldn’t be
higher.
The Cincinnati Kid
This movie is a piece of Hollywood history and features the brilliant
Steve McQueen and Edward G. Robinson. The movie centers around a single
game of poker, with both of these adversaries looking to one-up the other
and take home the pot of gold. Given the time that it was made, we can
through suspicion over the statistically-implausible hands which were
dished out, by why ruin a good movie based on something as frivolous as
that?
High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story
And finally we have this under appreciated gem, which chronicles the
story of Stu Ungar, who is a three time World Series of Poker champion. It
is a sad tale which shows a clearly gifted player fall into difficulties
in the rest of his life. The movie features a stellar performance from
Michael Imperioli, who was fresh off the back of his iconic role in
Sopranos.
