Directed by Stephen Scarlata, documentary Sharksploitation takes
a deep dive into the crimson waters of shark movies. Ever since the
success of Jaws in 1975, filmmakers have sought to replicate
its thrills with mixed results.
Taking part in the doc are the likes of Roger Corman, producer of Sharktopus and
Dinoshark; Joe Dante, who directed Corman's Piranha; Carl Gottlieb, writer of Jaws 1, 2 and 3;
Johannes Roberts, director of
47 Metres Down, and Mario Van Peebles, who starred in
Jaws the Revenge along with marine and environmental
conservation advocate Wendy Benchley, who was married to the late
Jaws author Peter Benchley.
Sharksploitation is on Shudder from July 21st.
