Selected as Senegal's submission to this year's Oscars,
Banel & Adama is the debut feature from
writer/director Ramata-Toulaye Sy. The film stars first time actors Khady Mane and Mamadou Diallo in the title roles of a pair
of young lovers whose romance causes friction with their families'
traditions.
Banel & Adama is in UK/ROI cinemas from March
15th. To celebrate International Women's Day, the BFI Southbank will host a
preview screening and Q&A with Ramata-Toulaye Sy on March 8th.

The official synopsis reads:
Banel and Adama are fiercely in love. The young couple live in a remote village in northern Senegal and for them, nothing else in the world exists. However, their perfect everlasting love seems on a collision course with their family’s traditions as drought strikes their community.
