Gambling has long been a topic for movies, highlighting as many different
types of betting as you can find on a site like
22Bet. Some of the
best have focussed specifically on the popular field of sports betting, and
here are three of the most exciting movies to do so.
Lay the Favorite
This one is inspired by the real life exploits of Beth Raymer a stripper
who became a highly successful gambler. Beth is played here by acclaimed
actress Rebecca Hall, with Bruce Willis playing Dirk, the owner of a sports
betting operation. Keen to exploit her talents, Dirk gives Beth a job in his
outfit where she uses her betting skills to make them a fortune.
Two for the Money
Another movie inspired by real life. This one takes its inspiration from
the story of Brandon Lang, who went from a promising career as an American
Football player to become professional gambler. Lang is played by
Matthew McConaughey and the film highlights his relationship with veteran
gambler Walter Abrams (Al Pacino) Teaming up, the two form a formidable duo
as they pool their knowledges of American sports to hit the jackpot.
Eight Men Out
This one is based on one of the most notorious chapters in American sports
history. During the 1919 World Series, eight members of the Chicago White
Sox baseball team received lifetime bans when they were discovered to have
conspired with a betting syndicate. John Cusack and Charlie Sheen lead the ensemble cast for a film that
takes a sympathetic look at the men involved and asks the viewer to
consider if they could jeopardise their reputation for money.
