Having drawn acclaim as a screenwriter for films like
Ida,
Disobedience
and She Said, Rebecca Lenkiewicz makes her directorial debut with
Hot Milk, adapted from the novel by Deborah Levy.
The film stars Emma Mackey as Sofia, a young woman who travels
with her sickly mother Rose (Fiona Shaw) to a Spanish seaside town
where they hope to find a cure for Rose's inexplicable illness. When Sofia
bonds with a free-living traveller (Vicky Krieps), it creates
tension in her relationship with her mother.
Vincent Perez, Yann Gael and Patsy Ferran also star.
Hot Milk is in UK/ROI cinemas from May 30th.

The official synopsis reads:
Set in the scorching heat of a Spanish summer, the film follows Rose (Fiona Shaw) and her daughter Sofia (Emma Mackey) as they travel to the seaside town of Almería to consult Gómez (Vincent Perez), an enigmatic healer who may hold the key to Rose’s mysterious illness. But in the sun-drenched town, Sofia, trapped till now by her mother’s condition, begins to shed her inhibitions as she is drawn to the magnetic charms of a free-spirited traveller, Ingrid (Vicky Krieps).Sofia’s increased freedom becomes too much for her controlling mother, and as the hot sun beats down, their relationship simmers with pent-up resentment and bitterness, threatening to tear the fragile threads that hold them together.
